The Banana Split spine runs north to south. The top is banana-shaped and sits at about 2 m. The west side drops to boulders at about 30 m, where the larger fish are. On the east side the boulders start around 10 m. At the south end a pinnacle stands off the main reef.
Several kinds of sweetlips live here and sometimes school together. Groupers, sharks, and pelagic fish are on the deep boulders. On the top, thousands of anthias and wrasses are often seen spawning. Entry is by boat. The depth is about 2–30 m.
