Bangsring Underwater is in Bangsring village, Wongsorejo, in the Bali Strait. Entry is from the beach. What visitors come to see is the fish apartments, the transplanted coral, and the wrecks. The apartments counted in the latest survey sit at about 5 m. Live coral cover there averaged 79 percent. An older guide put apartments at 10–30 m, about 100–200 m off the beach, and hundreds of units were once clustered on one coordinate near this map point.
The sea in front of the beach is gentle for the first 100 m, from about 2 m to 10 m, then it steepens. About 2 km to the southeast the bottom is already past 90 m. A core zone is left for juvenile fish. The zone used for visits sits beside it. Coral rubble on the bottom is what blast fishing left behind. Do not move an apartment and do not touch the coral.
In January 2024 three navy fiber boats were sunk in this area: KAL Tabuan, Patkamla Mustaka, and Patkamla Baluran. The boats were already more than 20 years old. Because the north-south current can run hard, the boats are held with anchors on four sides so they do not shift. The exact depth of those boats has not been published. The temperature on the apartments was recorded at about 28.8°C and the current that day was very slow. A clarity of 3.7 m was recorded while a river was in flood, so that is not an ordinary-day figure.
