Bonsai is easy to recognise from the surface: one fragile mangrove stands on a boulder that juts from the sea. The site is also called One Tree. On the south and west, at 20–30 m, there are overhangs, caves, valleys, and swim-throughs. Some passages drop to about 40 m, with red and white fans on the rock.
In those passages there are emperor sweetlips, Napoleon wrasse, hawksbill turtles, and groupers. Coral gardens surround the island, with table coral and staghorn. Young whitetip reef sharks often rest under the table coral, especially in the garden to the north. That north side is also used for snorkelling when the current is friendly. The current here can be very strong, and visibility is sometimes short. Bring a light. Entry is by boat. The map lists about 5–30 m for a usual route.
