Bunutan is on the Amed coast, between Bunutan Beach and Lipah. The slope is gentle and then becomes a wall, with two coral gardens separated by sand. Sea fans, barrel sponges, and table corals cover the slope.
The depth is about 5–40 m, and many dives run around 18 m. Current often builds and carries divers along the slope, so this is often a drift. Entry is usually by boat. It can also be from the beach when the current that day allows it.
The dive starts in the shallow garden-eel fields, then drops onto the richer reef. Toward the end, pinnacles rise toward the surface. Larger fish, including juvenile reef sharks, often shelter there.

Marine life
Barracuda
This site is known for barracuda. They are often in the open water beside the slope, as the current carries divers past.
Juvenile reef shark
Often shelter on the pinnacles that rise toward the surface, on the last part of the dive.
Reef fish
The coral gardens on both sides of the sand are busy with fish that live in the table corals and in the cracks of the slope.
Macro life
The shallow part, before the current becomes firm, is the place to look at the animals in the sand. For macro photos, use a macro lens and a focus light, and stay close to the group once the drift starts.
Garden eel
The garden-eel field is at the start of the dive, in the shallow sand. They rise, then drop into their holes if you approach.
Animals on the fans
The sea fans and barrel sponges on the wall hold the small animals that cling there. Do not grab a fan when the current pushes.
Sponges
The sea fans and barrel sponges on the wall hold the small animals that cling there. Do not grab a fan when the current pushes.
An animal on this list is not guaranteed on every dive.
