Kanawa, Komodo

Komodo

Kanawa is a small coral island east of Labuan Bajo. The reef near the beach is very shallow, about 1–5 m, with hard-coral gardens. Clownfish, turtles, and blue-spotted rays are there. The lagoon on the west side is the calmest place to see hawksbill turtles up close, without the channel current.

The outer slope is about 5–15 m. This site map lists a route to about 30 m, so a dive from the boat can be deeper than the snorkel at the edge. Visibility is often 10–20 m, and it can drop when boats are anchored or a swell passes. Entry is by boat.
