Pengah Kecil, Komodo

Komodo

Pengah Kecil is in the middle of the park, not far from Labuan Bajo. Three pinnacles break the surface in a line on the southwest side. Those tops are shallow, about 2–4 m, so the dive is the wall and the slope beside them. The south side has a wall that continues past 40 m. A spur on the east holds the current on a falling tide.

On the wall, fusiliers pass in large numbers, and coral grouper hide in the branching fire coral. Past the pinnacles, a long slope of giant table coral rolls into bowls on the west side. Whitetip reef sharks often sleep under that coral. On a falling tide the route can continue north, to another wall where giant trevally school. In the shallows, banded sea snakes hunt in the staghorn. Do not approach them. The current is mild to strong. Entry is by boat. The map lists about 5–30 m.
