Pilarsteen, Komodo

Komodo

Pilarsteen is a rock pinnacle on a small island east of Padar Besar. Enter under the point, on the wall, then swim west toward caves and swim-throughs at different depths. The part around 30–40 m is often the most interesting.

The slope is covered in a varied soft coral. Schools of fusiliers are there. Sharks and sometimes a turtle pass too. This site is often the choice when the current elsewhere is too strong, but a southwest swell can still bring surge. The map depth is about 10–40 m. Entry is by boat.
