SS Aquila sits in Ambon Bay, near the harbour channel on the Wayame side. The ship was launched in 1940 as Duke of Sparta, 137 m long and 17 m wide, then renamed Aquila in 1951. On 28 April 1958 it was bombed. It sank on 27 May 1958. The map point is −3.66583, 128.17147.
The ship is upright. The stern is about 15 m. The bow is about 35 m. The crane, the funnel, and the propeller are gone. Soft coral grows on the mast. Go by boat, often about 15 minutes. Visibility in the bay is often 5–10 m, darker near the port. The water is about 27–30°C. Do not take pieces from the ship.
Morays are in the gaps. Frogfish, nudibranchs, and shrimp are on the growth. Juvenile boxfish and emperor angelfish are around the hull.
